Blog #9 Rough Draft
Undocumented Students.
The topic that I chose is a topic that I personally can relate to on so many levels, I picked this topic because I want people to understand the difficult life undocumented students be having.
In the article Undocumented and Stressed By Kaitlin mulhere, over the years, surveys have found that undocumented students go through high level of stress, anxiety, and depression. In 2012 President Obama started the program Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Being an undocumented student myself, life has been pretty hard and DACA gave me a chance to “fit” in. Being under the DACA program and being a student, it makes you “ask a lot of questions……and they have to figure out who they can trust” saying this means that they really can’t trust everybody with their identity and have a lot of questions on what to do to focus on their future.
Being an Undocumented student myself has been actually hard because when DACA was starting my family didn’t have money to afford it and I got scared because the what ifs came in my head and I didn’t know what to do; is actually pretty weird sharing my status, you can never see anything coming from someone until they tell you. “90 percent of DACA recipients worried about the deportation or detention of friends and family”, on a serious note this is actually true because I fear that one day me and my brother and mom will get deported and leave my two younger brothers here. When I started college I had my whole life planned and then I found out that to be a firefighter you have to be a U.S. Citizen and my dreams went downhill, my older brother is also undocumented he is actually doing Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M and It freaks me out because he’s going to be a senior next year and what if something bad happens and his plans are ruined just like mine. I’m actually not going to give up but I need space and raise money to afford the rest of my semesters since my financial aid isn’t going very well.
“Colleges could also create support groups or centers specifically for undocumented students, so they have a place to go to share concerns and seek resources”, this would actually be so happy instead of always having so many questions and searching online. One of the majors stressors for undocumented students is “what will happen when DACA ends” and “It is not just stressful but also depressing for any human not being able or motivated to think, dream and plan a future,” most undocumented students don’t know what to do with their future will be or what to do since they are afraid on what will happen.
This information should actually motivate undocumented people and help them find their future and see their purpose in this country and be proud of it; and to inform people on what undocumented people are going through and try to see them selves on other peoples shoes.
